Did you know that sheep's wool keeps deer and hares away? They don't like the smell and therefore stay away. Using sheep's wool in the garden is an old trick. Of course, there's no guarantee that it will work, but then you can see the positive in the fact that you haven't spread anything dangerous and instead have given all the small birds some nesting material.
