Welcome to Öströö Sheep Farm

A vibrant organic agriculture and
Destinations where tradition meets sustainability and taste

Öströö Sheep Farm was born in 1987. Kristian and Jeanette Carlsson took over Öströö Gård, which had previously been run with pigs and grain farming.

Kristian and Jeanette chose to focus on sheep, specifically the Gotland sheep breed. During the 38 years since the start, the herd has gradually increased. Today, there are approximately 350 ewes at Öströö Sheep Farm, and during the spring approximately 600 lambs are born. The farm also has around 20 cows of the Highland Cattle breed.

Öströö Fårfarm has been run organically since 1990, with the entire chain from breeding to finished products. Everything produced on the farm is sold on site in the Farm Shop and the Craft Shop directly to consumers. Café Fårhagen serves food and coffee in a fantastic environment. During the summer, lamb safaris and food and coffee in a fantastic environment are arranged.

Öströö Fårfram operates on 150 hectares next to Öströö Gård and on adjacent farms. Since 2022, Öströö Fårfram has been leasing Öströö Gård from Camilla and Thomas Karlsson, owners of Öströö Säteri, which includes Öströö Slott and several historic properties in the region.

Milestones

As the true entrepreneurs Kristian and Jeanette are, they have over the years developed the business into the success it is today.

Here are some milestones:

  • 1990 – Öströö Sheep Farm becomes a fully organic, EU-certified farm
  • 1992 – The Meat Shop, now the Farm Shop, opens
  • 1996 – About ten highland cattle
    added to the animal population
  • 2001 – Slaughterhouse on the farm is built
for both your own and other people's animals
  • 2020 – The craft studio moves
to the barn and becomes the Handicraft Shop

A future in the same spirit

In the spring of 2023, the Carlssons announced that it was time to hand over their life's work to an heir and the company was put up for sale.

In January 2025, I took over ownership and operation of Öströö Fårfarm, and the company's founders Kristian and Jeanette Carlsson will remain in the business.

It is a huge honor to continue to drive Öströö Sheep Farm into the future with the same vision and business concept as before, as organic farming and a tourist destination, completely in the spirit of Kristian and Jeanette.

A warm welcome to Öströö Sheep Farm.

Owner and CEO

Our animals

When Öströö Sheep Farm was created in 1987, it was with 30 ewes of the Gotland sheep breed. Nine years later, a herd of Highland Cattle was added.

Today, our sheep and cows graze side by side in the pastures directly adjacent to Öströö Sheep Farm.

Gotland sheep

With its shiny and curly wool, the Gotland sheep is Sweden's
The most common breed of sheep and is found all over the country. Here at Öströö Sheep Farm there is an annual herd of 350 ewes and about ten rams. Every year 600 lambs are born here on the farm.

Highland Cattle

The Highland cattle breed originated in the highlands of Scotland. At Öströö Fårfarm we have the bull Arthur and about 20 cows that give birth to around 10 calves each year.

Shepherds

Our 3 herding dogs also work with us on the farm:

Tore, 13 years old, is calm and confident. He is by far the biggest and thinks he is the best. Tore is retired and enjoys a calmer life.

Les, 6 years old, has lived at Öströö Sheep Farm for 3 years. He works well with both his previous and new owners, is affectionate and loving like few others and always wants to please. That's Les in the picture.

Tage, almost 5 years old, is the world's coziest little dog. He can't sit still and wants to herd everything that doesn't go his way. Tage will become both obedient and good at herding - he just needs to get a little older.

Both Les and Tage love to ride tractors and loaders.
